Manufactured Timber Frame Homes
At Logangate, we source our Douglas Fir Timbers and Tongue and Groove material from British Columbia, and Logangate Timber Frame Cabin Kits come with 4×8 Rafters, surfaced on all four sides, pre-cut, sanded, and numbered to correspond with the blueprints. Furthermore, we are one of the few modern timber frame home kit companies east of the Mississippi that uses a 2×6 Douglas Fir tongue and groove. The 2×6 timber frame designs are so strong that they become our structural roof deck. Using quality materials is essential when constructing timber frame home kits in mountainous terrain; modern timber frame homes will last longer than traditional stick-built homes if quality materials are used.
At Logangate, we use a modern building method known as prefabrication (“prefab,” among other synonyms). As the name suggests, prefabrication means that pieces of the home are pre-built in our factory-controlled environment with the windows already installed. Once the timber frame cabin kit design is chosen, the rafters are cut to length inside the Logangate facility. Our insulated roof panels are also pre-cut to size and pitch cut. All hardware is included, and the modern timber frame home is ready to be delivered to the job site.
Another unique feature of our modern timber frame homes is the exposed loft floor system. We use the same 4×8 timbers as the floor joists and the same 2×6 Douglas fir tongue and groove as the flooring. This design results in homeowners seeing a Douglas Fir ceiling instead of drywall, giving a consistent feel throughout the modern timber frame cabin.
Logangate’s post-and-beam cabin kit designs do not have attics, and our ceilings go to the roof. Typically, living rooms are designed as clerestory spaces, resulting in 20’ plus heights at the peak. Similarly, the upstairs bedrooms are fully vaulted, adding to the open feel of the design. In our timber frame kits, we design windows in vaulted spaces that go to the roof.
Modern Timber Frame Cabin Kits
If you want to build that perfect vacation home in the woods, by the beach, or just like that rustic look, timber frame homes from Logangate Timber Homes are the best option. At Logangate Timber Homes, our home kits are made of pre-assembled walls (panelized construction) with installed windows. We also pre-cut and sand the Douglas Fir Rafters and fabricate the insulated foam roof panels. With this process, the prefab home is dried in only a few days, minimizing the home’s exposure to the weather. We also install a 1/2” polyiso rigid foam board underneath the wall sheathing. Not only does the home get an R-3.2 value from the product, but it also creates a crucial thermal breaker. This is a better system than standard 2×6 walls with only OSB sheathing. Since the walls of our timber frame cabin homes are built in our facility, our homes get an air-tight seal that is hard to create outside of our factory setting, eliminating drafts and helping save money through energy-efficient building.
When building timber frame house kits, Logangate Homes allows a great deal of flexibility and customization. Our home kits contain home plans that start at 24’ or 28’ deep and then work in 4’ increments, i.e., 24×36, 40, 44, etc. Because of the timber frame home designs, we have very few load-bearing points, allowing our customers to work with our in-house design team to customize the floor plan however they like. First, start by calculating how much square footage is needed in total. Second, does the client have any viewpoints they want to highlight from inside the home? Third, how many bedrooms and baths are needed? These design elements can all be incorporated into a design with our in-house design team that will produce a virtual model in AutoCAD with a complete set of floor plans, elevations, and construction sets used for permitting. At Logangate, we’ve made building a dream timber frame cabin a breeze!
Benefits of Using Timber Frame Kits:
- Durable materials: Douglas firs are some of the industry’s strongest and most durable timbers.
- Energy efficient: Since parts of the cabin house kit are built in our facility, the home has airtight seals to help reduce energy bills. It also has an insulated roof panel system with R-values from R-33 to R-48 and a passive Solar design to maximize natural efficiencies.
- Quicker Build Time: The cabin kit can dry faster than traditional construction because the pre-built parts reduce exposure to inclement weather and moisture.
- b: Our manufacturing facility allows us to make the home more factory-controlled, reducing defects, drafts, and poor quality in the final results.
- Variety: We have a variety of chalet plans & cabin kit plans available that can be customized to fit our client’s needs. 24 or 28 ft. wide to whatever length needed 4 ft increments, i.e., 24×36,40,44, etc.
