The Beauty and Timelessness of Timber
Many people don’t realize that Timber frame design is nothing new! It is based on the post and beam structural system and is one of the oldest construction methods known. Years ago, Timber frame building was used by the Egyptians, Greeks and other early builders. The style arrived in New England from Europe and consisted of wooden posts and beams, cut and shaped by hand and connected using wooden mortise and tenon joinery.
These large, solid timbers were felled and shaped locally using axes, and then erected as “bents” into braced frames. The post and beam frame was structural, and not exposed to view after the seventeenth century. While a lot has changed, the beauty of this style will never change. What many homeowners don’t realize is that a beautiful Timber Frame home can be theirs for about the same price as traditional construction.
Here at Logangate Timber Homes, this is what we excel at! Our post & beam construction provides vaulted wood ceilings supported by the strength of Douglas Fir timbers. The benefit of Douglas fir timbers is that they are stronger, more durable and can handle higher impacts and weight loads. This means your timber home can withstand more extreme weather and are built to last longer than other wood types.
